Come July and anganwadi children across Madhya Pradesh will get 100ml of hot, sweet, flavoured milk thrice a week, in addition to their usual dose of nutritious diet.
Milk would be served one hour before breakfast to 29 lakh children in 92,000 anganwadis on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the state government announced on Tuesday.
The directive on milk distribution was sent to the district collectors, chief executive officers of zilla and janpad panchayats and officials of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), a communiqué issued by the state government said.
They have been asked to make necessary arrangements before July 1.
The sweetened-flavoured milk powder will be made available by Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Dairy Federation to the self-help groups supplying nutritious food diet in rural areas. In urban areas, the milk powder would be directly provided to anganwadi centres through ICDS officials on basis of demand.
The state government has stipulated that the federation will provide measuring instrument to ensure balanced mixture of milk and water.
SHGs have been asked to adhere to sanitation norms while preparing milk. The agencies have been asked to ensure that milk was served within an hour of preparation so that it did not go sour.
Anganwadi workers have been asked to submit demand to the SHGs on the basis of number of children one day in advance, the directive said.
