The police recovered six weapons including a 135 bore rifle and a 12 bore gun from the house of a former minister of UP, Badshah Singh, in Chhatarpur district, 344km from the east of Bhopal, on Thursday.

Singh, whose house is located in Peptech Township under Civil Lines police station, is being questioned to ascertain whether the arms are legal or not, the police said.

Civil Lines station officer Rajesh Banjara confirmed that they recovered six weapons including a 315 bore rifle and a 12 bore gun.

Banjara said the model code of conduct was in force in the area because of panchayat elections so legal arms were not supposed to be kept in any house. If legal, those arms should have been deposited at the police station, he added.

Singh, who was a cabinet minister in Mayawati-led government in UP, represented the Moudha assembly seat in the state.

In fact, Singh was in Chhatarpur, as he was facing ire from the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government in UP, the police added.

He was lodged in a jail in UP in connection with a criminal case and was released sometime back, they added.
