Detention of two persons on Sunday confirmed the fact that a love affair was behind the double murder in Naveen Nagar under Aisbabagh on Saturday, the police said.
Both of them have been identified as Harish Rajak, a resident of Naveen Nagar and Shivam who lives in Aishbagh, the police added. Sources said in the aftermath of the incident, Harish who fled from the city was detained from Bina town of Sagar district and Shivam was rounded up from a locality in Bhopal.
Rajak, son of a railway employee, lives about few metres away from the house of the deceased, Sunita, 38 and her daughter Divya, 19, who was a B Com first year student.
Rajak had an affair with Divya who had got a mobile phone financed for him on the basis of documents provided by her parents. However, when he did not pay the instalments, Divya who was working with a call centre had a dispute with him leading to her parting with Rajak who suspected that she might have had an affair with another person.
She also told Rajak that if he does not return the money, she will lodge a complaint against him, so Rajak came to Divya’s house along with Shivam to settle the issue with her on Saturday.
But when he failed to convince Divya not to part with him, he attacked her and cut her vein with a sharp-edged weapon, the police added.
On hearing her cries, when Divya’s mother Sunita came to her rescue, Rajak attacked her too and when the mother-daughter duo slumped to the ground, Rajak and his friend fled from the spot.
City superintendent of police (CSP) Jehangirabad Saleem Khan confirmed the detention of two persons and said they are being interrogated.
Divya’s father, Raju, a door-to-door utensil seller, was not home when the incident occurred.
