Police have recovered 80 wireless sets from the house of Waqar Khan, an owner of a private security agency, who was arrested for illegal use of wireless sets in Bhopal, said police on Saturday.
During the raid at Khan’s house, police have recovered a large number of wireless sets, said additional superintendent of police (ASP) Manu Vyas.
“Police seized 79 wireless sets and a repeater used for boosting the range of wireless sets from Waqar’s house. He had brought them illegally and had no licence to use them”, he said.
Khan had brought the repeater from Delhi.
Police suspects that he might be using the wireless sets by tuning them to banned frequencies to listen to sensitive information.
Khan is being interrogated, officials said. Police sources said that Waqar hire out the wireless sets to people for organising functions.
“Waqar provided security to Bollywood stars during the functions held in Bhopal. However, his security agency was functioning without a licence,” a source said.
Khan was arrested on May 9 after police received a complaint that he was illegally using wireless sets. He has been in police custody since then.
When Khan was arrested, police had seized half a dozen wireless sets from him.
He had permission for three of them. Police had booked him under the Telegraph Act.
Khan is currently on police remand and would be further quizzed about his links and reason for buying so many wireless sets.
