The Congress on Thursday alleged that such was the extent of corruption in the state that even the ruling party leaders were now writing to Prime Minister.
The Congress was referring to the letter that was written by BJP legislator and former minister Tukoji Rao Puar to Prime Minister about the culture of bribery prevalent in administration in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress leaders released a copy of the letter to media at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office on Thursday. The letter, which is written on Puar’s letterhead, states that Modi has been urged to take immediate action to set things right in the state.
It points out how major projects in the state are given to particular companies and contractors and how officers are allegedly given postings after paying bribes, the Congress said.
State Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra said the letter was in circulation in political circles for almost a month. When asked about its authenticity, Mishra said it should be probed and the forensic analysis should be conducted to ascertain if signatures were real or not. However, he said he had also received this letter by post at his address.
On being told that Puar has denied that he wrote any such letter, Mishra said it seems that he (Puar) made the statement under pressure and after chief minister assured Puar of re-inducting him in the cabinet.
On being asked of the possibility that the former minister’s letterhead might have been misused, Mishra said this should be examined by police. “If a complaint is being made to police, it should be investigated to ascertain the truth,” Mishra said.
