DPS student commits suicide

A 16-year-old student of class 11 in Delhi Public School in Bhopal allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday after failing in mathematics and chemistry examinations in his school. He was allegedly depressed after failing in the examinations, police said.

According to Misrod police station officials, the deceased student, Aditya Singh, 16, a resident of Red Square Colony, was depressed after getting his examination results on Monday, in which he came to know that he had failed in mathematics and chemistry. His parents consoled him at home and also had their dinner together. They reportedly last spoke to him at around 2am and asked him to sleep with them. But he refused and went to sleep in his own room. At around 5.45am on Tuesday, when his father went to his room, he didn’t find him there and went out to check. He allegedly found Aditya hanging from a slider in a park in front of their house after which he informed the neighbours and police.

Aditya had allegedly put pillows under the blanket on his bed to mislead his parents before going out in the park to commit suicide. He has left no suicide note behind him and in the initial investigation it seems to be a case of suicide, added the police.

Aditya was fond of music and led a music band in his school at the age of 10. He was also a very well-known singer in the school and had also performed on various occasions.

Aditya was a very good singer and received many prizes, says his father

“Aditya was a very good singer and received many prizes for the same in the school. But on February 17, he came to know that he has failed in the mathematics examination after which he was very tensed and used to tell his friends that his admission would soon be discontinued because of poor performance in the examinations. He thought so because there is a rule of the school in class 11 which enables the school administration to discontinue the admission of a student who performs poor in the class 11 examinations”, said Dr. Mahendra Singh, father of deceased Aditya.

The principal of DPS, Ajay Sharma was not available to talk on the issue despite HT tried to contact him on his contact number repeated times.

After conducting initial investigation, the police believe it to be a case of suicide.

“Prima Facie, it seems to be clear that he had committed suicide due to depression of failing in the school examinations. His body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem and investigation would proceed after receiving the post-mortem report”, said Kunwar Singh Mukati, town inspector, Misrod.
