The Bhopal police on Wednesday lodged an FIR against the family members of a rape accused for forcing the minor victim to commit suicide.
The pressure, exerted by the family members of the accused Aman Dubey on the girl and her relatives to settle the matter, forced her to commit suicide, the police told Hindustan Times on Thursday.
The 15-year-old girl, a resident of Gautam Nagar area in the city, committed suicide at her grandmother’s house at Hanumanganj in May this year.
The girl, allegedly raped in November last year, was forced by her family members to leave her school and stay at her maternal grandmother’s house at Hanumanganj, police added.
“The girl, whose parents were separated, lived with her mother in Gautam Nagar locality where Dubey, her neighbour, raped her. Aman is in jail,” said investigating officer, sub-inspector Kanchan Rajput.
Rajput said initially, the father of the girl accused her mother and grandmother of harassing forcing her to commit suicide.
However, her mother and grandmother told the police that she was being harassed by the family members of Dubey to reach an agreement.
“As the deceased had left no suicide note and as there were contradictory statements of her family members, an investigation was conducted to check the facts. It was found that the girl was being harassed by the father of the accused, Dwarika Dubey, mother Vimla, sister Bharti and brother-in-law, Madhav to reach an agreement,” said Rajput.
“The police have registered a case for abetment of suicide against the four accused and investigations are on to arrest them,” added Rajput.
