Left parties on Sunday announced to launch a fortnight protest across the state from Monday demanding justice for the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy.
"We are going to organise rallies, hold protests across Madhya Pradesh from tomorrow for a fortnight to demand justice for the Bhopal Gas tragedy victims," Communist Party of India (Marxist) state Secretary Badal Saroj, along with CPI leaders, told reporters here.
The Left parties' demands include re-trial of the accused in gas tragedy under tough sections of IPC, in six months, Saroj said.
For this, he said the Supreme Court, which had diluted the charges against the accused (now convicts) to section 304 (a) (causing death due to negligence) from 304 II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), should evolve a judicial mechanism.
"We want the Apex court should scrap the verdict of the trial court on June 7 convicting the seven accused to two years punishment and re-try them under section 304 II," Saroj said.
The Left parties want that people who helped Warren Anderson, the then Chairman of Union Carbide Corporation (US), to escape trial, should be prosecuted, the CPI (M) state secretary said.
