A 36-year-old alleged serial rapist who kidnapped and raped three minors within a span of five months in different parts of Bhopal in 2015 and 2016 was sentenced to life in prison till death in one of the three rape cases by a special court here on Wednesday.

Special judge (SC/ST Atrocities) DK Paliwal, while holding the accused, Radheyshyam Meena, alias Raddu, guilty of kidnapping and raping a 9-year-old Dalit girl in Piplani area of Bhopal on November 26, 2015, sentenced the convict to life in prison till death.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 30,000 on the convict, who hails from Shajapur district of MP, but has been residing since last few months in Anand Nagar locality in Bhopal’s Piplani area.

The prosecution produced 17 witnesses during the course of the trial and the conviction was achieved in just eight months from Raddu’s arrest in another kidnapping and rape case lodged in March 2016 by Awadhpuri police.

Raddu, a daily wage labourer, had kidnapped the girl while she had gone with father to Gandhi Market in Piplani on November 26, 2015. He subsequently took the minor to a desolate spot and raped her, after forcing her to consume liquor.

He attacked the girl and severely wounded her. The matter came to light on November 27, 2015, when the rape survivor returned home.

A case under Sections 376 and 363 of the IPC was lodged by the Piplani police. The accused was also booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

Raddu allegedly used the same modus operandi to kidnap two more minors in Aishbag and Awadhpuri in January and March 2016 respectively, city SP (Govindpura) Ajay Singh told Hindustan Times.

It was the Awadhupuri police which arrested Raddu first, a day after Holi, for allegedly raping and kidnapping another minor just 24 hours earlier.

It was during the course of grilling by the Awadhpuri police that Raddu admitted to kidnapping and raping the Dalit minor.
