On Holi day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a surprise in store for Namita Sahu, a sub-inspector of police and in-charge of Nirbhaya Patrolling Team in Bhopal.
The sub-inspector received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Friday. The man on other side informed her that PM Modi would like to talk to her.
“I was patrolling near Shahpura Lake on Friday evening when I received a phone call from the PMO. I was shocked when the person on the other side told me that PM would talk to me. I never expected that the PM would call me,” said the officer.
Namita said she was a little nervous before beginning the conversation with the Prime Minister. “I was nervous but gradually got the confidence and talked to him for about six minutes. He appreciated our efforts at work. It was a perfect Holi gift. The PM also wished Holi and Women’s Day,” she said. The PMO told HT the Prime Minister had talked to the police officer.
Namita told HT that Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed about Nirbhaya Patrolling and policing in Bhopal with her.
“Though he had complete information about the working of Nirbhaya Patrolling, he discussed a few things. He asked about the problems we face on field and also assured that he would extend all assistance to strengthen the Nirbhaya Patrolling cell in MP,” she said.
At the end of the conversation, Modi gave Namita his phone number and email and told her to contact him if she needed any help or wanted to give any suggestion to the PM about woman empowerment and safety.
“I shared this moment with my team members and seniors. All were surprised that the PM of the country is keeping a watch on our work,” said Namita.
