Large potholes on the streets that keep growing in size are posing grave risk to the citizens in the state capital. Some of these potholes are large in size than the manholes.
For commuters, who haven’t passed through these routes earlier, the risk is even more, as the riders don’t anticipate such big holes on the roads. The situation is worse in the evening.
After the recent rains, the holes have become even more dangerous.
The reason is that due to water on roads, the holes aren’t immediately discernible.
The old part of the city has many ditches and holes that have been filled with water.
Due to the ongoing work to lay pipeline and optical fibre cables, several localities from Ashoka Garden upto Karod have been dug up.
Some are so big that the two-wheeler can fall into it.
The chambers of the sewerage system are lying open also. At many places, roads were dug but later there was no proper repair let alone tarring. Besides, in supposedly posh localities there are many such potholes.
In Arera Colony, Gautam Nagar, Rachna Nagar, Padmanabh Nagar and Shakti Nagar, there are many such holes. The situation is similar at Bhopal Talkies, Alpana trisection, Chhola, near Bazaria, Pushpa Nagar, Firdaus Nagar, Krishna Nagar, amongst other localities.
Despite the fact that there have been mishaps in the city because of such holes, the civic authorities are yet to take action. The excavations on the road side, mostly for laying cables, also remain open for days. These trenches also pose risk to commuters.
In some cases, the potholes have been filled with rubble but even then, the vehicle rider can lose balance while crossing it.
