She battled cancer and then tore into aviation sector, traditionally perceived as a male bastion, to establish India’s first and only marketplace for private jet and helicopter charters.

Meet Bhopal’s Kanika Tekriwal. At 27 her JetSetGo has contracts running into $20 million and manages assets worth $70 million. Recently, she was featured in the Forbes magazine list of ‘30under30’ achievers of Asia for making a mark in changing the face of e-commerce and shopping.

An alumna of Jawaharlal Nehru School, BHEL, Tekriwal finished her graduation in Mumbai and MBA in England.

“I was always fascinated by the aviation sector and began working in it at 17. But it was only after my MBA that I finalised my plans of setting up JetSetGo,” said Kanika, who is the CEO and partner in the private jet concierge company.

At 22 when she was diagnosed with cancer, Tekriwal did not let go off her dreams. After battling the disease, she went back to the drawing board and finally set up her company in 2013.

“While working in the aviation sector, one would always hear that hiring a private jet in India is like hiring a spaceship. The sector was bogged down by negativity and was crying out for an option that enabled hassle-free and informed hiring of private aircraft for leisure, work or medical reasons,” she added.

JetSetGo is an interactive technology-driven platform enabling users to search and charter aircrafts and helicopters across India, she said. India has about 200 airstrips of which less than half are connected by commercial flights, making the aircraft charter market a viable option for many.

“A person wanting to hire an aircraft needs to go to the JetSetGo website, fill up the requirement upon which the website would throw up the options available. The website lists all the details of the aircraft and the airstrips where the aircraft can operate, besides other aspects that are crucial to the hiring. In case an aircraft is hired, the company receives a 5% fee for facilitating the hiring,” she said.

Initially registered in Bhopal, JetSetGo now operates from Delhi.
