A two-and-a-half year old girl was allegedly raped by a man, Arjun Thapa (25), who lives in her neighbourhood at Khajuri in Bhopal. The child has sustained injuries but is stable now.

According to police, the child was at home with her mother when Thapa took her away. As he was a neighbour, the child often went to his portion in the building and no one objected when he took the girl along. However, the child's mother was alarmed when she heard her cries.

She rushed to Thapa's house and found the door shut. As she peeped in from a window, she found that the accused had undressed himself. He had allegedly sexually assaulted the child. After repeated knocks, Thapa opened the door and came out. The incident occurred on Friday. Later in the evening, when the woman's husband came back home, she informed him.

Later in the night, they approached the police. The accused was booked for rape. He has also been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police arrested him on Saturday. The accused is married and his family lives in his native town. He works at an eatery in Bhopal. The families of the victim and the accused live in separate portions of the same house. The Khajuri police are interrogating the accused.
