Two persons have been arrested for the alleged murder of a woman whose half burnt body was found in the forests of Balampur last month, the police said on Thursday.
Nepal Singh Rajput, 24, and his brother-in-law Rajendra Singh, 34, have been arrested for the murder of Pooja Soni, 30, senior superintendent of police Raman Singh Sikarwar said.
After committing the murder, the duo had allegedly burnt the body so that she could not be identified.
Pooja worked as attendant at a private hospital.
On May 6, she had gone missing and the next day her burnt body was found in the forests.
During the investigation, it was found out that Pooja had been close to Rajput, who also worked in the same hospital.
However, Rajput got fed up with Pooja as she kept making phone calls to him after he got engaged.
This eventually broke his engagement, the police explained.
"Though Pooja was married, she wanted Rajput to marry her as well. Despite all attempts she couldn't be dissuaded and hence he asked his brother-in-law to talk to Pooja," said SP, Bhopal North, Arvind Saxena.
The duo - Rajput and his kin - took Pooja to the desolate place on the pretext that they were taking her to a relative's place.
After reaching the forest, they again asked her to stop pestering Rajput, but when she refused, there was an argument. Rajendra Singh allegedly strangled Pooja and when she died, the duo dragged her body to a tree where they put dry leaves on it, and poured kerosene to set it afire. Later, they left the place.
After the dead was identified, the police found that she was last seen with two persons at Balampur Ghati near Sukhi Sewania on the outskirts of Bhopal.
