Bhopal residents were all set to welcome the New Year on Thursday evening. The evening saw many youngsters who chose to party till the small hours of the morning with their groups, while several others chose to stay at home and usher in 2016 in a quiet but enthusiastic manner.
“It’s New Year and it is an annual ritual for my friends to follow a colour theme. This year, we are all dressing up in blue and going to our favourite place to party,” said Sajal Garg, a young employee working in Bhopal.
For many, the New Year has become a season of homecoming where they take leave from their workplaces to come back home and spend time with their families. “I just came to Bhopal to be with my mom and dad, I have no party plans. I am going to stay at home with my parents, cook good food and bake a cake,” said Arpita Joshi who works in Mysore.
People who have moved to Bhopal from other cities too welcomed New Wear in their own unique way.
“Since I am new to the city and do not know many people, so I have decided to be at home and enjoy a movie marathon on my laptop, I have also bought some snacks to accompany my screenings,” said Abhishek Jain, a college student.
And then there were also people who used the occasion to spread happiness and serve others. “For me, New Year is about celebrating inner joy, so on the 1st of every year, I go to an orphanage, give some pastries and cupcakes to children there and play with them, that’s how I celebrate my new year,” said Kusum Kachawa.
