A 23-year-old woman has accused her property dealer boyfriend of poisoning her to thwart their planned marriage. Though the incident reportedly occurred on Monday, the woman was admitted to the JP District Hospital by her family only on Tuesday morning. However, police officials have said that poisoning was not indicated in the preliminary medical report of the woman, who is recuperating now.
City superintendent of police (CSP) of Govindpura, Shivdayal told HT that there were many confusing aspects to the incident reported and police were investigating various angles before a case could be registered. Also detailed medical report of the woman was awaited.
What makes the case high profile is that Shivam Sharma, the boyfriend facing the accusation, is the nephew of mining baron Sudhir Sharma, who is currently in jail for being involved in the Professional Examination Board (PEB) scam.
The woman's father has also accused the boyfriend Shivam's family of seeking dowry worth Rs 11 lakh and breaking off an impending engagement when they (the woman's family) refused to pay. Giving another twist to the case, the woman's family also handed over a suicide note allegedly written by her on Monday.
According to police, the woman Harsha Richcharia, a resident of Indrapuri, has alleged that she had gone to stay with Shivam in a flat in Piplani locality on October 26. They were planning to marry on November 3 despite their engagement being broken by the families.
However, during the course of their stay together, Shivam allegedly developed cold feet. On Monday when Harsha brought up the subject, he reportedly tried to smother her with a pillow, but later tried to pacify her and brought her a juice.
