Youth Congress (YC) workers marched to the residence of food minister, Vijay Shah, in Bhopal to gift him ‘daal’ packed in dry fruit packets on Sunday.
Scores of YC workers reached the minister’s residence at Shyamla Hills, in the afternoon. The protest was against rising prices of tuhar (arhar) daal in the state.
The YC workers were also raising slogans against the BJP government. There was substantial police presence on the spot.
The minister’s staff took the packets. Later, talking to Hindustan Times, YC leader Manoj Shukla said that the prices of pulses have soared so much and government couldn’t do anything, as the dal mills are mostly owned by those close to the power.
“As the minister was not at home, we gave the packets to his staff”, he said. Shukla further said that the gift of ‘daal’ packets would be given to more BJP leaders in coming days, as ‘diwali’ gifts.
Shukla said that the state government took delayed action even in issuing the daal control order.
