A private bus overturned near Kanaura village of Sidhi district on Wednesday morning, killing three men and injuring 33 passengers.

The accident happened when the bus, owned by Ansari Travels, was on its way from Sidhi’s Amilia to Deosar.

According to preliminary investigation, a possible mechanical failure jammed the brakes and the bus turned turtle, the police said.

Three men died on the spot, while 33 others were rushed to the nearby Sehawal community health center (CHC).

Around 11 were later shifted to the Sidhi district hospital out of which two were rushed to Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition.

According to Sidhi superintendent of police Abid Khan, two deceased have been identified as Rajendra Singh, 50, and Man Singh, 22 -- both residents of Sidhi district. The identity of the third deceased, aged around 35, is yet to be ascertained.

“We will book the driver of the bus under Section 304A for causing death by negligence,” said Khan.
