PEB scam

A meeting of Shivraj Singh Chouhan's cabinet ministers at the chief minister's house on the eve of the beginning of the budget session had the 'desired' impact.

After the MP Assembly was adjourned for the day following the Congress boycott of governor Ramnaresh Yadav's address, all ministers gave identical replies to more or less the same set of questions asked by the mediapersons.

The Congress had boycotted the governor's address alleging his role in the infamous PEB scam. Opposition MLAs came out of the House shouting slogans against Yadav.

A little later, members of the treasury benches also came out. Many of them were stopped and quizzed by the media over the latest political developments, particularly in the context of the PEB scam, and all of them had the same replies to offer.

Even veterans like Babulal Gaur, who often embarrass the governmernt with their frank opinions on various issues, were being politically correct.

Higher education minister Uma Shankar Gupta, transport minister Bhupendra Singh, general administration minister Lal Singh Arya, urban administration minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, social justice minister Gopal Bhargava, women and child welfare minister Maya Singh and cabinet spokesperson Narottam Mishra all gave the same well-rehearsed replies.

The questions were related to the Congress' boycott of the governor's address, their opinion on the demand for governor's address and the PEB scam.

What's your reaction on the Congress boycotting the governor's address?

Collective answer by ministers: It is an insult to democracy and democratic values. This was the first time in the state legislature's history that the governor's address was boycotted.

Congress is demanding the governor’s resignation. Your view?

Collective answer by ministers: Till yesterday, Congress senior leaders, including Digvijaya Singh, were giving statements that the governor's name was included in the PEB scam fraudulently and today they are shouting that he is one of the accused and that too without any evidence.

Doubts are being raised over the manner in which investigation is being done in the PEB scam.

Collective answer by ministers: The Congress is acting in a most irresponsible manner. They had approached the high court and the Supreme Court in this matter, but the courts expressed satisfaction over the investigation reports.

Digvijaya Singh has given evidence with affidavit to the SIT, alleging the role of the CM in the scam? Should the CM resign?

Collective answer by ministers: He is not telling about the source of his evidence. Anything said on an affidavit doesn't prove to be true. The CM is taking legal advice and would soon take action against Digvijaya Singh.
