An eight-month-old girl child died on Sunday allegedly after she was administered an injection by a homeopath in Raisen district. Agitated family members staged a dharna in front of the district collector's residence, demanding that the doctor be booked for murder charges.
The victim, Kamna, daughter of Purab Bairagi, was taken to the clinic of Dr Girish Maheshwari after she complained of cold and fever on Sunday. The compounder present at the clinic administered an injection to the girl on the instructions of the doctor.
According to Bairagi, when he returned home from clinic, his daughter did not open her eyes despite repeated efforts to wake her up. When he again took her to the clinic, Dr Maheshwari allegedly told him that the child was "sleeping" due to the impact of injection. Later, Bairagi took his daughter to the district hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The agitated family members pelted stone at the clinic of Dr Maheshwari and also staged a dharna in front of the district collector's residence. In-charge collector of Raisen district, Anurag Chowdhary, has instructed that a SDM-level investigation be instituted in the case.
This is second case, where a child died after being administered an injection at Dr Maheshwari's clinic in the last six months. On April 28, another boy died after the doctor allegedly administered injection to him.
Superintendent of police (SP), Raisen district, Deepak Verma said the police were waiting for the post-mortem report of the girl after which action will be taken against the doctor.
