In a reprieve to Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Lokayukta on Thursday filed a closure report in the alleged dumper scam in which the BJP leader and his wife, among others, were named accused.

In the report submitted in the Court of Special Judge R P S Chouhan, the Lokayukta police have stated that no case against Chouhan, wife Sadhana and others can be made out following investigations into the three year old case, which related to purchase of four dumpers.

On November 15, 2007 the ombudsman had registered a case against Chouhan, Sadhana and others under different sections of IPC, including 420 (cheating) and Prevention of Corruption Act and launched a probe following a special Bhopal court's order.

The Bhopal court had given the order on a complaint lodged by one Ramesh Sahoo.

According to the complaint, Chouhan and Sadhana had bought the dumpers (trucks) by furnishing wrong addresses and then leased them out to a cement factory at Rewa. Chouhan had been under fire from the main Opposition Congress over the purchase of dumpers.

The Assembly's winter session was adjourned sine die midway after the Opposition stalled the proceedings demanding a CBI probe into it. The Congress had raked up the dumper issue in the run up to the 2008 Assembly elections to highlight alleged corruption in the Chouhan led BJP Government.
