CISF constable from Bhopal who attempted suicide airlifted to Delhi AIIMS

The woman constable of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who had made a suicide attempt by shooting herself from her service revolver at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal, on August 5, was referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, as her condition was constantly deteriorating.

She was taken to Delhi through an air ambulance arranged by the CISF administration. Senior officers of CISF, including inspector general of police (IG), CISF, Rajeev Ranjan Sahay and deputy inspector general of police (DIG), CISF, Sanjay Prakash reached Bhopal and took stock of inquiry being conducted by CISF and the city police. Later, Sahay returned to Delhi in the air ambulance.

In her statement to CISF on Saturday, Ritu Kumari reportedly accused the deputy commandant of CISF, Bhopal Unit, Vijay Kumar of harassing her. According to CISF officers, they started a 'court of inquiry' on Sunday. Meanwhile, a four-member team, led by a senior commandant, reached Bhopal on Sunday night and they will start inquiry from Monday.

"We have started the proceedings for a court of inquiry and a senior commandant of Ahmedabad will lead the inquiry. The statement of Ritu Kumari, which she has given to our officer, will be verified and action will be taken as per the facts," said DIG Sanjay Prakash.

Replying to a query, he said: "To my knowledge, she has not accused the deputy commandant of indulging in any sexual harassment. I don't know what she has told the police, but she has not told any such thing to CISF. But, a fair investigation would be conducted by CISF and if anyone is found guilty, the action will be taken."

After the incident, CISF officers have recorded the statements of several CISF women and male constables deployed at the airport. The officers were reportedly told that behaviour of deputy commandant Vijay Kumar was not good especially towards woman constables.

The woman constable Ritu Kumari, 25, had shot herself from her service revolver, outside the armory. According to information, she reached about 30 minutes late on her shift on August 4. The next day she was summoned. After meeting deputy commandant, Ritu went to the armory, got her service revolver issued and shot herself.
