Eardrum of a Class 5 student of Delhi Public School in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh was damaged on Monday after he was allegedly slapped by his tabla teacher for making mistakes while playing the instrument.

A complaint has been lodged against the accused teacher, while the school administration has instituted an internal inquiry into the matter.

According to police, Rahul Singh, 10, a student of DPS Vindhya Nagar branch, about 700 km east from Bhopal, was slapped by his tabla teacher PK Sharan during class allegedly for repeatedly committing mistakes while playing the instrument.

“Rahul lost consciousness soon after he was beaten up and blood started coming out from his left ear…He was rushed to a nearby hospital by school administration, where the doctors said his eardrum had been damaged,” Rahul’s uncle Amar Singh told HT over the phone.

“We were informed about the incident by school administration only after Rahul was discharged from the hospital,” Singh said, adding he has lodged a complaint at Vindhya Nagar police station in the matter.

When contacted school principal Janardan Pandey accepted that there was a mistake on the part of the teacher and said an internal inquiry had being set up to look into the incident. “Action will be taken against accused teacher after the report is submitted by the probe panel,” he said.

Town inspector (TI) of Vindhya Nagar police station, RB Singh, said, “The boy has been sent for medical check-up and action will be taken according to the medical report.”
