The decision in this respect was taken recently at the meeting of top police officials of the state, where four innovative best practices started in different districts were highlighted before the DGP and several additional DGs.

In August 2016, Burhanpur SP Anil Singh Kushwah started a unique concept of granting day offs to cops up to the level of deputy SP on their birthdays and wedding anniversaries and wishing them on those notable days of their life. Impressed by the noble experiment, the DGP decided to replicate the initiative in other districts too. The birthday-anniversary initiative of the outgoing Burhanpur SP Anil Singh Kushwah grants a full day off to cops not only on their birthdays, but also on the birthdays of their wife and at least two children.

Similar day off is also rendered to a cop on the day of his/her wedding anniversary.

“We built a massive database of the birthdays of our police force, their wives and children. A dedicated system of SMS based greetings was also started to wish the cops on those important days of their life,” Kushwah told Hindustan Times on Sunday.

Not only do the Burhanpur police personnel get SMS based birthday and anniversary greetings on their cell phones, but also get phone calls from the district police control room informing them about the compulsory holidays to enjoy the day to the hilt, added the 2006 batch IPS officer, who has now been transferred as SP Bhind.

Interestingly, the Burhanpur police’s initiative has already been adopted by Shahdol SP Sushant Saxena and will now be emulated in remaining 49 districts.

The DGP also decided to replicate innovative best practices of other district police across the state. These include Sheopur police’s committed drive against removing illegal encroachments from the land of weaker sections and Betul police’s initiative to use services of ASHAs and Anganwadi workers in rendering justice to women victims of crime.

The DGP also directed for making necessary arrangements to implement the Indore Police’s citizens cop mobile phone based app in all districts.
