A couple allegedly forged a letterhead and used it to cheat half-a-dozen youths whom they charged money in lieu of promising them jobs. The fraud came to light when the victims realised that they had been tricked and reached the police.

The complainant, Deepmala Sirvaiya, 26, who holds an MBA degree, told police the couple Manoj Parihar and his wife, Sunita, had promised her that they would get her government job. She said the couple told her that a particular minister would clear the file of appointment if she brings a few more candidates.

Deepmala knew Sunita when both were studying and they lived in a rented accomodation. When Deepmala met Sunita recently, the latter had told her she had got married and her husband was personal assistant with a minister and hence in position to get her job. Deepmala got some of her friends to meet the couple. In all, around Rs 18 lakh was paid. However, later when they asked them about their jobs, the couple began dilly-dallying.

The complainant said the couple showed them a forged letterhead of the CM to show they had pushed for the file. After a lot of pressure, the couple returned over Rs 4 lakh but not the remaining amount. The police have booked Manoj and his wife. The Kamla Nagar police have arrested Sunita while her husband is absconding. Efforts are on to catch him, said the police.
