A man, who allegedly teased a girl during Raahgiri Day organised at Boat Club on Sunday, was beaten by the girl’s mother and later by the crowd. However, the girl and her mother refused to lodge a complaint when police reached the site.

This is the first such incident during Raahgiri Day celebrations where hundreds of city residents, including women, assemble every Sunday morning to promote physical fitness and use of public transportation.

The man was identified as Nafis alias Nadeem Khan, 30, a resident of BDA colony Nishtapura. According to sources, Nafis allegedly passed obscene comments on the girl when she was passing through the Boat Club, the venue of Raahgiri. Noticing the man pass comments, the girl’s mother caught hold of the man him and started beating him up.

Soon, people from the crowd joined her and beat up Nafis. On receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and took Nafis to Shyamla Hills police station. Shyamla Hills police station town inspector (TI) GP Agrawal said a case under Section 151 of the IPC was registered against the man.

“When we asked the girl and her mother to lodge a complaint, they refused saying that they have taught a lesson to the man and don’t want to lodge any complaint,” he told the HT.
