Sagar: A Dalit woman tried to immolate self at the Sagar collectorate on Tuesday after the police allegedly didn’t take action over the complaint she had lodged over house possession.
Just after the public hearing at the collectorate got over, 30-year-old Angoori Bai Ahirwar from Bada Karela area poured kerosene over herself and tried to immolate self. But people stopped her from immolating self.
Angori said she had bought a kutcha house built on a piece of land from Gaurilal alias Gora for Rs 1,30,000.
“Later, I came to know that the same house had been sold to Ganesh. When I went to take the possession of the house, Ganesh prevented me. I complained about the matter to police and officials but no action was taken. I again approached the public hearing but nobody helped me here, prompting me to take the extreme step,” she said.
Angoori, who had come with her children, was admitted to the district hospital.
Motinagar station officer AS Parihar said both Angoori and Ganesh had come to the police station with their claims for possession of the house.
“When I checked their stamp paper, I came to know that Gora had wrongly sold the house to Ganesh Ahirwar in May and to Angoori in September. I told both of them that they can complain against Gora for duping,” he said.
Additional district magistrate Dinesh Shrivastava said he was chairing the public hearing in the absence of collector. “Angoori did not come to me during hearing with her complaint. I had ordered the city magistrate to inquire and lodge a case. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Gora had wrongly sold his Awas Patta to Ganesh and Angoori. The patta by law cannot be sold to anybody,” he said.
