A farmer, reported to be missing for three days, was found hanging from a tree in his fields at village Samardha near Bhopal on Friday.
The man was allegedly being pestered by local money lenders for the repayment of non-agrarian loans.
Manoj Ahirwar, 36, had taken a Rs 8 lakh loan to purchase two vans to ferry school students, but was unable to repay it, superintendent of police (north) Arvind Saxena said, adding that a probe was being instituted into the matter.
He said though Ahirwar was missing for three days, his family had not lodged a missing complaint saying the farmer had “disappeared” sometime back to escape his creditors.
In another incident, Hariprasad Dangi, 50, a resident of Namgaur village in Narsinghgarh district, who attempted to commit suicide around a month back, died during treatment at Hamidia hospital on Friday. Dangi had consumed poison on October 8.
While Narisnghgarh police feigned ignorance on the incident, Congress MLA Jaiwardhan Singh, who visited Dangi before his death at the hospital, said the farmer had taken loans -- Rs 2 lakh from Kisan Credit Card and some from money lenders -- for the marriage of his son Rajesh. He was under lot of stress after his paddy and soybean crops were destroyed, Singh said.
