In an incident that shows extreme apathy of district hospital staff in Shivpuri, an injured woman who was brought to hospital died and her body was left in the gallery where stray dogs ate parts of her head.
According to information, the unidentified woman had received a head injury and policemen, who found her lying injured, had brought her to hospital for treatment on Tuesday afternoon. The woman's one-and-a-half-year-old child was with her.
Allegedly, the woman did not get proper treatment and died the same evening she was admitted, sources said. After her death, the body remained lying in the gallery from Tuesday evening till Wednesday morning. Sometime during the night, stray dogs attacked the body and ate parts of the head.
The sight of the mutilated body shocked patients and other visitors. Senior officials at the hospital then rushed the body to mortuary for post-mortem. Meanwhile, her child was sent to a home for destitute children.
Health department officials appeared hushing up the matter. Civil surgeon Dr Govind Singh said that the woman's identity was not known hence the body was kept by police in the gallery, which led to delay in post-mortem and hence the incident occured. “The hospital is not responsible for it, as police delayed the post-mortem,” Singh said.
