Unhappy with the Centre's compensation package to limited victims of the Bhopal Gas tragedy, a Muslim body today demanded that the financial aid should be given to all 5.74 lakh people affected by the world's worst industrial disaster.
"We were happy when the Centre last month announced compensation for Bhopal Gas tragedy victims, but thereafter we were shocked to learn it will cover less than 10 per cent people affected by it," Jamiat Ulama Madhya Pradesh (JUMP) president Mufti Abdul Razzaq Khan told reporters.
Mufti said the Centre has done injustice to the tragedy suffers, with its recent announcement to compensate little over 42,000 victims.
The Centre has done grave injustice to the victims of the tragedy, mostly Muslims, JUMP president said.
All 5.74 lakh victims in 36 wards, who had got compensation as gas victims earlier, should also get the benefit of the recently announced financial help, he said.
Mufti said if JUMP demand was not met shortly, they will organise protest rallies and court arrest to ensure that justice was done to the tragedy victims.
