A woman and her two kids were burnt alive in an inferno at their house in Begumganj town of Raisen district on Saturday.

A woman and her two children were charred to death in a major blaze at a house in the congested Mahadeo Nagar of Begumganj town on Sunday morning.

The dead have been identified as 35-year-old Vandana Chaurasia, two-year-old boy Mayank and one-year-old girl Kavya. While Vandana and Mayank died on the spot, Kavya died later at the district hospital.

In the four-room house, the fire broke out in the room in which the woman lived with her husband and children. And it spread to the second room.

Vandana’s 50-year-old father-in-law Natthu Lal Chaurasia, who also sustained burn injuries, was rushed to Hamidia hospital in Bhopal where he is stated to be critical. Vandana’s husband Rajesh was at his paan shop in the adjoining locality when the fire broke out.

According to Begumganj police station in-charge Ajay Dube, it was earlier suspected to be a gas cylinder blast. “But the two gas cylinders have been found intact.”

Dube said since the fire was concentrated in the Vandana’s room, police suspect either the woman set self and children on fire or could be an electric short circuit which caused the fire.

“A team of forensic experts is at the accident site. Only after they collect samples and conduct their examination, can we know what caused the blaze,” Dube said.

Agitated over the delay in fire trucks reaching the spot, residents of the locality blocked the Bhopal-Raisen-Sagar Road for about half an hour in protest.
