Bhopal’s first free wi-fi zone to come up soon

Bhopal residents will get free wi-fi facilities at the 2.5 km stretch area of Boat Club in the first week of January. All the process of developing the area, which will be the first free wi-fi zone of Bhopal, has been completed.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) with the help of an Indore-based information technology company is providing this facility.

Not only residents but it is free for BMC too. The company has not charged any operative cost.

BMC commissioner Tejaswi Naik said, “We have released an Expression of Interest (EOI) in November. An Indore-based company expressed interest in providing free internet facility. The company is not charging for making this facility available to BMC.”

He said, “The wi-fi zone will start from the entrance gate of Van Vihar and end at Kamla Nagar. After the success of this zone, later some other spots of the city including the important squares and markets like New Market, Bittan Market and MP Nagar of the city will be developed into free wi-fi zone.

Naik said, “There will be no time limit for using the wi-fi facilities. People can use it without paying any cost.”

According to an officer in-charge, residents need to download an app to use free internet. After registration, they can login by registering his name and email id. The registration is compulsory so that people can’t misuse it. After registration, they can use internet free of cost.

However, the available speed of the internet is not fixed yet. The officer in-charge said the speed will depend on the crowd. BMC will keep an eye on quality of the facility. In case, users don’t get high speed internet, the company will improve it accordingly.

BSNL has also made announcement of developing New Market and some other important area of the cities into wi-fi zone.
