In a horrific incident, five persons including four members of a family, were found dead in a car at Bilquisganj (17 km from here) on the Bhopal-Sehore road via Ratibad on Saturday morning.
Police said that the family included Deep Singh (27), his wife Rukmani (25), five-yearold daughter Sanjana and fouryearold son Ashant. Deep Singh was a property broker hailing from Khedli in Sehore, the police said.
The fifth person was Qasim Khan, hailing from Alwar in Rajasthan. Khan was a truckdriver. Whether he had any relationship with Singhs is not clear. The police suspect that he might have been killed because he was witness to the crime.
There were injury marks on the victims’ throats and it is suspected that they might have been drugged and later killed. Superintendent of Police (SP) KB Sharma confirmed homicide, saying efforts were on to Deep Singh was a property broker hailing from Khedli in Sehore Qasim Khan, hailing from Alwar, was probably a witness.
The car was found near a culvert. It was lying in a bushy patch off the Bhopal-Sehore road that passes through Ratibad. Local villagers had spotted it and informed the police. Maruti car pushed from the road to give an impression of accident. Victims were strangulated to death using either a rope or cable.
Later forensic experts said that the Maruti car had been pushed from the road in order to give an impression of accident. Additional Director General of police (ADG) Vijay Yadav said that prima facie it seems that victims were killed elsewhere and after stuffing the bodies inside, the vehicle was pushed down the road to give an impression of mishap.
"We have got some leads and hope to catch the killers soon", he said. Police officials surmised that the killings were apparently carried out with the single-minded aim of eliminating Deep Singh. Those around him also lost their lives in the process as the murderers did not want any witness, police sources told HT. The victims were strangulated to death using either a rope or cable. Even the children were not spared. “It is rare barbaric crime because the killer eliminated the entire family of Deep Singh. Such brutality is seen mostly in cases when killers have an old grudge,” said a police officer, not wanting to be named.
