Police on Friday arrested four persons involved in the parading naked of a woman in Lahar in Bhind district. The woman was also beaten up and her hair cut off by the assailants.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Amrit Meena said the accused - Murli Manohar, Ram Prakash, Jai Singh and a woman - have been arrested. He said the statements of the victim’s family members are also being recorded.
The incident took place in Janakpura in Lahar in Bhind district on Thursday. The assailants had entered the house of the middle-aged woman and thrashed her over her son marrying a girl from the attackers’ family against their wishes.
Enraged, they beat up the youth’s mother, stripped and paraded her in the village. After the incident, the victim was admitted to a hospital, which is when her kin approached the police.
Police sources said those arrested were later released on bail. ASP Meena said an inquiry into the matter was on and in the course of the investigation, more sections of the Indian Penal Code may be added in the FIR.
Meanwhile, Congress said the incident was extremely condemnable and demanded tough action against the accused. Senior Congress leader and MLA Govind Singh pulled up police for inaction while the woman was being paraded naked in the village.
Singh said the police should have booked the accused under tougher sections of the Indian Penal Code, threatened to launch an agitation if the police fails to take appropriate action.
