A 20-year-old married woman died in MP’s Jabalpur district after consuming poison allegedly over eve-teasing by four youths, coming close on the heels of two sexually harassed sisters taking the extreme step in Raisen district.
The woman, a resident of a village about 15 km away from Jabalpur city, consumed a poisonous substance on Sunday night.
She was taken to a private hospital in Jabalpur city by her parents and relatives, but succumbed on Monday.
“The woman took the extreme step after four boys of the same village Sandeep, Lucky, Vicky and Lattu allegedly threatened to defame her if she did not listen to them,” local BJP leader Rajendra Choudhary said.
About eight months back, elders in the village had warned the accused. They stopped their alleged act after the warning but a few days back they started harassing her again.
Superintendent of Police Ashis said the accused are absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab them, adding that the woman’s statement was recorded before her death.
Earlier, two sisters in Raisen district took the drastic step after being constantly harassed by their neighbour, a married man and father of four children, who was later arrested. The sisters, one a minor, are serious and undergoing treatment in a hospital.
