Heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by high velocity winds and lightening lashed the state capital on Monday evening, drenching the entire city thoroughly.

With the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) issuing warning of heavy rainfall for next two days in south MP including Bhopal and Indore divisions, citizens should be alert about chances of some quite heavy showers.

On Monday before the rainfall, at around 4.30pm, the city turned so dark that people had to switch on lights at homes and use headlights to drive their vehicles. People were left surprised by the extent of darkness, which was because of extremely dense clouds present in the sky.

The rainfall that followed was so heavy that Bhopal airport recorded 41.6mm of rain in about 45 minutes till 5.30pm, while the city recorded 28.5mm of rain.

The intensity of rainfall was different in different places and places like New Market, TT Nagar and surrounding received particularly heavy showers.
The director of the RMC, DP Dubey, told HT that the low pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal has now moved over to Odisha and is heading towards Madhya Pradesh.

“It is quite a strong weather system and is likely to bring rain to entire state during next two to three days. The rainfall is likely to be particularly heavy in meteorological divisions of south MP, including Jabalpur, Sagar, Bhopal, Indore and Hoshangabad divisions, during next two days,” he said.

Rainfall was recorded in other parts of the state too.

During last 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Monday, number of towns and cities received heavy rainfall, with Patan recording the heaviest fall of 13cm.
