Heavy pre-monsoon showers hit the capital city late on Monday evening causing waterlogging on the roads within short time.
Minor traffic jams were witnessed on some busy roads as the heavy showers hit vehicular movement.
Many citizens were caught off guard and had to rush for cover to save themselves from the heavy rain.
Meteorological observatory at Bhopal airport recorded 20.7mm rainfall within half an hour of showers hitting the city.
Though the day remained mostly sunny, dark clouds started gathering in the sky since early evening and gave way to heavy showers at around 8pm.
Rainfall was continuing till filing of this report.
While monsoon onset has been announced for Southern MP, Bhopal and other parts of State are yet to be covered by the monsoon current.
The director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Anupam Kashyapi said that monsoon onset in these remaining areas would be most likely announced by Wednesday (June 17).
"The rainfall on Monday evening is good indication. But we would watch the conditions for another 36 hours before announcing the onset," he said.
