The income tax searches that began at the premises of two prominent Bhopal based business groups on Wednesday, the Narmada hospital and the Manohar dairy and restaurant continued on Thursday as well with the sleuths finding details of undisclosed investments in land and jewelry. Income tax officials termed the search as 'successful'.
Sources in the income tax department said that the searches that had commenced at 21 premises in Bhopal and one each at Indore and Hoshangabad on Wednesday were wound up at 12 premises but were continuing in remaining places.
The searches were launched at the residence of Dr Rajesh and Renu Sharma who own Narmada hospital, Rajiv and Dr Padma Mishra of Noble hospital in Misrod, Sanjay Sharma, Paramjit Singh Chandhok of Shiva constructions, BJP leader Shailendra Sharma, all of whom are associated with the Narmada hospital. Besides, searches were also launched at 7 sites linked to Manohar and Murli Harwani of the Manohar dairy and restaurant.
Sources in income tax department said that the total gold jewelry found in both groups would be in the 2.5 to 3 kg range and total cash recovery from premises would be about Rs 1 crore, though final additions are yet to be made.
Sources said that most of the wealth linked to the Narmada hospital group has been acquired in the last 5 years, including large tracts of land, and an opulent farmhouse near Hoshangabad. They added that papers bearing accounts in code have been found at premises of Shailendra Sharma.
Paramjit Singh Chandhok of Shiva constructions in not in Bhopal at the moment and his premises have been sealed. They would be opened when he returns. Sleuths said that they would also be adding the costs incurred in ongoing projects of Shiva constructions to income.
IT officers also found that the gym at Narmada hospital is being run in partnership by the wife of a former chief secretary.
