Illegal sand mining: 25 people held for attacking govt officials in MP

Shajapur and Ratlam police, investigating into the attack on mining and district administration officials on June 3, have arrested a total of 25 people involved in the two cases on Friday.

Illegal sand miners on Wednesday had allegedly attacked mining and administrative personnel at Shajapur and Ratlam districts separately leaving five, including three patwaris and two guards injured, police said.

Eight out of 10 people, who had allegedly attacked the team of district officials, including a tehsildar and four patwaris when they had raided the illegal sand mining site near River Chambal on Wednesday night, were arrested from Ratlam, district superintendent of police Avinash Sharma said.

“Investigation is on and the remaining two accused in the case will be in the police grip soon,” he said.

At Shajapur, Akodiya police arrested 17 out of the 21 accused who attacked the mining department team, led by Shajapur district mining inspector Rina Pathak.

Two guards were injured when a mob pelted stones on the team members when they were heading towards the headquarters after inspecting the illegal mining site at River Nevaj near Bakakheri village under Akodiya police station limit in Shajapur district.
