Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Sundday said that the controversy surrounding the IPL could have been avoided had it not been allowed to grow into a monopoly.

Speaking to reporters at his residence here, Singh said a thorough inquiry into all the matters concerning the IPL should be conducted by Union Finance Ministry and strict action should be taken against those found guilty.

"The IPL controversy could have been avoided had it not been allowed to become a monopoly," he added.
