acid attack

A 22-year-old woman in Bhopal on Tuesday suffered serious burn injuries in an acid attack from a man whose marriage proposal she turned down.

The incident took place at Karayia Kala village under Nazirabad police station.

The victim suffered burns on her back and has been admitted to the Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal.

In-charge of Nazirabad police station, Gaurav Bundela said that the attacker belonged to the same locality as the victim.

“She has suffered 20% burns and is out of danger. She was earlier admitted to a hospital in Nazirabad but was later referred to Hamidia hospital where her condition is now stable,” he said.

The police sources said that the woman, who had separated from her husband two years ago, was living with her parents.

The accused, identified as Golu Ahirwar, was constantly mounting pressure on the victim to marry him but had been turned down.

Police sources said the accused had earlier also threatened the victim.

Bundela said the accused had been arrested and was being interrogated.
