A car of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) was hit by a recklessly driven SUV at Misrod in Bhopal late on Friday evening, said the police. The judge escaped unhurt.

However, the police registered a case against SUV driver under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of IPC. This is a rare action taken by the police in such road accident.

The police generally register a case under sections 279 and 337 of the IPC against erring drivers in such accidents.

Town inspector (TI) of Misrod police station Kunwar Singh said JMFC Ashok Bhardwaj posted at district court in Bhopal was heading towards his house in Nirupam Royal Palm colony when an SUV hit his car from behind near a shopping mall on Hoshangabad road.

“The car has been badly damaged, though the judge escaped unhurt. We have registered a case against SUV driver and also detained him,” Singh told HT.

In his complaint, the judge has claimed that his car was intentionally hit twice by the SUV driver, said police sources.

The sources further said the driver has been identified as Ravi, a resident of Bagh Mugalia and he was going towards Mandideep when the accident occurred.

“As the complainant said his car was intentionally hit, the section (of the IPC) was used,” said a policeman requesting anonymity.
