liquor trade rivalry

The MUV which was hit by another MUV belonging to rival liquor contractor's men in Rewa district on Tuesday.

Sustained rivalry over poaching of each other’s territory triggered a gang war between goons hired by two rival liquor contractors on two interconnected highways of Satna and Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday-Tuesday intervening night.

The sensational battle between goons hired by two liquor contractors operating in Satna district began with chasing of an MUV boarding six men of one liquor contractor near Ahirgaon on the Jabalpur-Rewa highway at 1.30 am and ended at around 3 am nearly 25 km away on the Rewa-Varanasi highway into Rewa district with the killing of a 22-year-old man. Three aides of the deceased were hurt in the brutal attack.

According to sources in Rewa police, two liquor groups, Som group owned by a Chhattisgarh based contractor and the Jaiswal group of Satna operate liquor vends in Amarpatan and Rampur Baghelan respectively in Satna district.

Rival liquor contractors have often been poaching into each other’s territories

The rival liquor contractors have often been poaching into each other’s territories during night hours and secretly selling liquor at prices lower than what is charged by the licensed liquor contractor. Four days back, goons working for liquor contractor in Amarpatan area had caught aides of the rival contractor selling liquor pouches. Around four cases of liquor were subsequently seized by police from Jaiswal group’s men.

Since then the Jaiswal group which has links to a criminal Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu was eyeing an opportunity to target the rival Som group men for avenging seizure of liquor.

On Monday-Tuesday intervening night a MUV boarding Jaiswal group strongman Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu was privately patrolling its territory, when they spotted another MUV having Som group men inside on Amarpatan and Rampur Baghelan junction near Ahirgaon village.

Jeetu and his men first attacked the vehicle of rival group men, but Som group men managed to speed their MUV. Jeetendra men who were on the other MUV chased the six rival group men in the other MUV at speeds ranging between 120-140 km per hour.

Fleeing MUV was from behind, causing it to overturn multiple times

The chase which began near Ahirgaon in Satna district on Jabalpur-Rewa highway ended with Jeetu’s MUV being joined by another MUV near Bela police outpost in Chorhata area of adjoining Rewa district. One of the two MUVs boarding Jeetu and his men finally dashed the fleeing MUV from behind, causing it to overturn multiple times before falling into a gorge in Umari village.

Jeetu and his men caught hold of four of the six men of the rival group and clashed with them. With Jeetu’s men outnumbering the three rivals, there was least resistance from the rival group. Jeetu’s men attacked the trio with metal rods, killing 22-year-old Rahul Singh (a native of UP’s Banda district) on spot and wounding three others, including Sandip Patel (25), Ashish Uike (26) and Sonu Kori (22). Two of them Ashish and Sandip are now battling for life in critical state at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Rewa.

According to in charge of Chorhata police station Anil Verma, over 20 persons, all linked to Jeetu (who was arrested in the past for drug and liquor smuggling) were involved in the crime. “A case of murder, attempt to murder and rioting has been registered against Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu, Sandip Singh, Abhishek Dubey and 15-20 others. “We’re coordinating with Satna district police to arrest the culprits.”
