Alok Sharma took oath as the 9th mayor of Bhopal on Monday. The oath taking ceremony for the newly elected mayor and 85 corporators was held at Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) office, adjoinging the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), in the morning.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, home minister Babulal Gaur, ministers Gopal Bhargava, Narottam Mishra, Umashankar Gupta and member of parliament (MP) Alok Sanjar, former mayor Krishna Gaur and many other leaders including the local legislators attended the ceremony.
District collector Nishant Warwade administered oath to Sharma. Addressing the audience, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "BMC members would work together without any bias to develop the city. State government would help the BMC in development. We would also work to improve the condition of slum areas of Bhopal."
He also had an advice for the corporators and said that if they really want to make the city clean and beautiful, they souldn't become contractors. Sharma said mayor-in-council would work to develop the city into heritage, clean and green city.
"We will work in the direction of development. Our motive is to run metro train by 2018. We also want to develop Chowk Bazar's road as an ideal road," he added. The 85 corporators took oath of working honestly for the development of their wards.
