The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state executive committee meet which was held in Bhopal on Saturday, sparked a controversy as party president Amit Shah's photograph wasn't visible on the banners during the event.

The glaring omission put most of the party leaders on the backfoot. The leaders privately admitted that it was a mistake and sent a wrong signal. The main banner carried photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Also, there was no other photograph of any of the leaders of the 'margdarshak mandal', which includes veteran party leaders—former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and MM Joshi.

When journalists asked the BJP state vice-president Rakesh Singh whether Shah was being ignored in MP, he said the party has great respect for its president as well as all senior party leaders. He rejected the charge that party organisation was given less importance vis-a-vis the government.
