Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday issued an official confirmation on the much-speculated cabinet expansion in Madhya Pradesh, saying that it would be undertaken in the month of August.

He, however, did not provide a more specific timeframe for the process while speaking to journalists at the state hangar upon his return from Delhi in the afternoon. He met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi earlier in the day.

Chouhan also said that the awaited appointments of chairpersons and members on the boards and corporations in the state would be done in the next 3-4 days before the cabinet expansion.

Earlier in Delhi, he had brushed away questions on the speculated drop of octogenarian home minister Babulal Gaur from the cabinet, and asked, “Why are you trying to get him out?”

There has been a lot of speculation about the cabinet expansion and many names have been making the rounds for inclusion, including two-time Bhopal MLA Vishwas Sarang, former school education minister Archana Chitnis, Gwalior-based senior MLA Jaibhan Singh Pawaiyya, ex-minister Kailash Chawla, MLAs Chandrabhan Singh and Usha Thakur, among others.

There is also speculation that Gaur will be replaced with transport minister Bhupendra Singh.

About his meeting with Modi, Chouhan said that the PM had accepted his invitation to attend the Simhastha — a philosophical convention — on May 14, 2016.

Chouhan said that he discussed the new format of Simhastha with the PM and informed him about the preparations.

Chouhan also submitted reports of the Niti Ayog sub-group that he leads, he said.
