Madhya Pradesh health director (in-charge of hospital maintenance) KK Thassu was allegedly manhandled by his junior Fanindra Sharma in his office on Saturday morning, sources said.

Health commissioner Pankaj Agrawal told reporters on Saturday evening that a suspension order had been issued to Sharma for misbehaviour, which was against the service conduct rules.

Sources in the health department said Sharma was summoned by his senior to his chamber to discuss official issues.

After a while, colleagues in the office heard heated arguments between the two officers and some of them saw Sharma allegedly lunge at Thassu, in an attempt to hit him.

In the process, the director's clothes were also reportedly torn.

Thassu then approached commissioner Pankaj Agrawal and apprised him of the matter, sources said.

When HT contacted Dr Thassu in the evening, he said he had called Sharma to ask him about the progress in some work that was assigned to him.

"He started shouting at me and created a scene. I called my staff immediately who tried to diffuse the situation. This is completely against office decorum and discipline and is not expected from an officer. I immediately went to the office of health commissioner and told him everything," he said.

HT was unable to reach Sharma till the time of filing this report.
