The Madhya Pradesh High Court directed on Friday the Special Investigation team (SIT) to proceed against a "high dignitary" after being briefed by the latter on the progress of investigation against high-profile persons allegedly involved in the scam.
A division bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court (MPHC) comprising Chief Justice AM Khanvilkar and Justice Alok Aradhe passed the order after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) monitoring the Special Task Force's(STF) investigation into the scam, presented two sealed envelopes in the court.
One — having the name of a "igh dignitary"and the other having the status report of the investigation of the STF in the MPPEB scam, additional advocate general Purshendra Kaurav said.
"The STF is free to proceed against the high dignitary," the bench observed. Kaurav declined to reveal the name of the "dignitary".
The court has fixed the next date of hearing on February 23.
The high court's direction came at a time when the State Raj Bhavan was under the scanner of the STF after governor Ramnaresh Yadav’s son Shailesh’s name emerged in the supplementary charge sheet in the exam scam filed recently in a court in Bhopal.
The opposition Congress has been demanding governor’s resignation over his son’s alleged involvement in the scam. Congress has even boycotted the customary address of the government on the opening day of the budget session of the assembly on February 18.
Former state minister Laxmikant Sharma and a host of powerful persons are already in the judicial custody over their alleged involvement in the MPPEB scam.
