Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has written to Union minister Maneka Gandhi demanding action against officials responsible for malnutrition deaths in Madhya Pradesh.
The Guna MP reminded the woman and child development minister of their meeting on September 14 last during which he had drawn her attention to the deaths of children in Shivpuri due to malnutrition.
Incidentally, the National Human Rights Commission had issued a notice to the chief secretary in September following media reports on deaths of 116 malnourished children in Sheopur district . The opposition Congress has been attacking the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government for the child malnutrition deaths for a long time.
Scindia said she had assured him of writing to the chief minister and that she would take necessary action against the guilty by getting the matter investigated by an independent agency. But, the Congress leader said, he had not received any information so far regarding the Madhya Pradesh government’s probe into the malnutrition deaths.
Scindia said he expected the Union minister to prevail over Chouhan to intervene in the matter and issue instructions for a free and fair probe.
