Man gets two years in jail for sexually harassing Japanese woman in MP
A trial court in Madhya Pradesh took just 15 days to send man to two years in jail for sexually harassing a Japanese woman tourist on the pretext of teaching yoga.
Within 15 days after a case was lodged, a trial court in Rajnagar in Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh sentenced a man to two years in jail for sexually harassing Japanese woman tourist, police said.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2000 on the convict.
The Japanese woman had come to Khajuraho on May 7 where she met a local Ramratan Soni who claimed to be a yoga expert. The accused allegedly touched her inappropriately while visiting ‘Chausath Yogini temple’ and ‘Dulha Dev Temple’, on the pretext of curing her. The accused runs a small yoga teaching class in Khajuraho.
The accused then took her to a hotel and allegedly began touching her private parts. When woman shouted for help the hotel staff came to her rescue but by that time, the accused had fled. The victim then went to the Khajuraho police station to report the incident.
Khajuraho police station officer Anjana Dubey said she had lodged a case under sections 354 and 454 of the IPC against Ramratan Soni. The accused was later arrested and produced before the court. The trial began on May 13 and the judgment was pronounced on Saturday.
Judicial Magistrate First Class SS Jamra sentenced the accused Ramratan Soni to two years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2000.
Additional district prosecuting officer Shrikesh Yadav presented the case from victim/government side.
This is not the first time when foreign nationals have been targeted in MP. In March 2013, a Swiss woman was robbed and gang-raped in the state. She and her husband were cycling from Orchha to Agra and had stopped near Jhadia village in Datia district, when they were targeted by six men, who gang raped the 38-year-old woman after tying up her husband.
In January 2012, a 21-year old French tourist Sarah filed a complaint with the Khajuraho police that while she was celebrating with her friend at a hotel on December 31, the hotel owner, and two local guides tried to molest her and extort money from her.
In January 2012, a Singapore-based businesswoman was allegedly molested onboard a flight to Bhopal. She lodged a complaint against the accused with the Gandhi Nagar police in Bhopal and a case was registered.
